I decided to join the fansite for 120 good reasons, my students. I teach at an inner city high school and found the transition difficult. Believe it or not, my love of reality television became the first (of many) links between myself and my students. My kids respond to Dog's work ethic, his speaking style, his humor. I am glad that our common ground is based on a show that I have loved for many years now; now I have even more excuses to talk about the show and my favorite crew of bad-ass bounty hunters!
In light of the "event" that took this show off of the air, I felt it was important to address the issue of racism and how the media can "spin" just about anything. While most of my students moved on, a few were not convinced. I hope that the new season will help to enlighten my student's further on our ability as humans to misinterpret, pass judgment, and most importantly: to forgive.
